Tuition - Brass

We offer tuition on trumpet, cornet and trombone to adults and children 6 years old and above. All brass tuition is given by Rick James on a Thursday afternoon and evening.

Rick’s parents were horrified when he came home from primary school with a trumpet. Undaunted, he worked his way through the ranks of as many ensembles as he could before moving to the North-East to study at Newcastle College. He has a Graduate Diploma in music and a B Ed. from the University of Sunderland. He has also trained as a brass instrument repairer. Rick started teaching trumpet in 1991 and has taught classroom music in several schools across Northumberland. He has trumpeted his way round the coasts of Europe and North Africa as a cruise-ship musician and has toured extensively on the UK cabaret circuit. When not teaching at NMC Rick can be seen playing obscure soul tunes in pubs and parties as part of the band ‘Gynocerous’.
