Brass

We offer tuition on trumpet, cornet and trombone to adults and children 6 years old and above. All brass tuition is given by Rick James on a Thursday afternoon and evening.

Rick's parents were horrified when he came home from primary school with a trumpet. Undaunted, he worked his way through the ranks of as many ensembles as he could before moving to the North-East to study at Newcastle College. He has a Graduate Diploma in commercial music and B.Ed. Rick has been teaching brass at the Northern Music Centre since 2003. He also works for Durham School's Music Service, teaching brass and ukulele. When he is not teaching, Rick and his trumpet can often be found performing in the brass section of the popular Northeast function band 'Hip Operation'.
